曼儿（袁洁莹 饰）自幼就是孤儿，住在舅父家，和表妹巧璧（文颂娴 饰）一起长大，两人亲如姐妹。自幼父母就不在身边养成了曼儿坚强独立的性格，长大后她在一家药品公司工作，由于工作努力，收入不菲。然而就在曼儿交了首期买了房子后，香港经济开始低迷，曼儿的部门更是出现了危机，公司调来人称“老佛爷”的秀丽（沈殿霞 饰）来接管，秀丽素有霸道、专横的口碑，她刚到就要求部门同事提高营业额，否则就走人，令肩负供房压力的曼儿心有戚戚。秀丽发现曼儿十分有才华，就是太傲气了，于是对她更是严格要求；而曼儿亦因此认为秀丽针对自己。 然而随后秀丽成了公司高层斗争的牺牲品，离开了公司。在秀丽离开不久，曼儿的部门最终也被解散了，曼儿和好友添宝一起加入了失业大军。无可奈何之下，曼儿只能到茶餐厅去打工，而添宝则成了的士司机。曼儿在工作中积累了不少经营茶餐厅的经验，之后与秀丽再次相遇。这时，曼儿发现秀丽天生就是一个美食专家兼烹饪高手，二人当初的误解消除，决定合力经营茶餐厅。。When Kira Slater inherits an Animal Reserve in South Africa she must decide whether to sell it or leave the safety of her life in Chicago and risk everything for this new world she has fallen in love with.
