(Strugatsky Brothers website) NOTES This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。抗战时期，南京失守，国民党政府迁往陪都重庆。重庆政府决定建立中国的密码情报机构，派遣中共党员特工秦骜去武汉抢夺人称“密码之父”的美国专家雅德利。陆涯帮助国民党特工秦骜从武汉日军手中抢夺出美国情报专家雅德利，共同到重庆谍报机构黑室工作。在武汉，秦骜终于见到失散两年的未婚妻扈渝雯，后者已经成为武汉中共地下党员陆涯的妻子。为了找出潜伏在黑室的内奸“独臂大盗”，“黑室”实施了钓鱼行动，因为只有陆涯生还，故他被认定为内奸。为证明清白，陆涯逃亡，寻找可疑目标，最终找出了真正的“独臂大盗”。但重庆政府高层中还隐藏着更大的日奸，并酝酿着更大的阴谋，为了国家利益，陆涯最终以牺牲生命为代价，击败了敌人的阴谋，保卫了重庆的安全。。
